I have vast experience is treating
various mental health issues.
I am Tendani Nkolo, a Professional Counsellor and Higher Education Educator with vast experience in community mental health. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science, from the University of Botswana, and two Master’s Degree qualifications in Education, namely; MEd -Counseling and Human Services, and MEd-Higher Education speciality, attained from the University of Botswana and Botho University respectively. These qualifications assist me to adopt a more holistic approach to mental health issues within the educational environment. I am a registered member of the Botswana Counselling Association, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana and adhere to their ethical framework. I adopt an eclectic approach to counselling but I am fond of Reality Therapy and Choice Theory to promote individual responsibility and assist students to establish control over their academic, professional and social life, while helping them to make decision that are in line with their vision, to become the best they can be. I hold high the value of academic involvement and student-faculty interactions (build meaningful and effective relationships), due to their positive impact on academic performance and student retention in a school environment; a trait which has been my driving force in trying to create an appropriate balance of support and challenge for students as a students’ counsellor.
